The files are in .mp3 and I think most are at 160 kbps.  I realize that some will not find this ideal, but that is the format I have them in.  Plus half of the songs are recorded from cassette tape on to the computer, so it really doesn't matter.  I do regret not keeping the original wave files of the bootlegs so as to have a high fidelity recording of the shows, but there's no use yelling at my 2002 self.
